Now lately, I've been talking about The King of Fighters lately, and I've been going a little fanatic about the twelfth game in the series. It's finally here - The King of Fighters XII for the XBox 360.
Now, SNK's plan for this game was to put in most characters from the old games in the series, such as Kyo Kusanagi from KOF '94, Iori Yagami from KOF '95, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury, and Ryo Sakazaki from Art of Fighting. The only exception, however, is Ash Crimson and his team from KOF 2003, because they wanted him to be part of the dream match.
There's lots of difference between the first eleven KOF games and KOF XII. First off, the roster in KOF XII is shrinked down to 20 fighters, though the home console version will have more characters hidden as unlockables. And trust me, if you've played KOF 2002 Unlimited Match, like WOW. SO MANY CHARACTERS. Second, the spriting style is completely revamped. Now, instead of simple, cel-shaded sprites, KOF XII uses full-color, bigger, hand-drawn sprites to give that nice HD feel. They took away Iori's purple flames and gave him claws because of what happened in KOF XI, but hey, it still looks nice. Third, if that doesn't get you pumped, wait until you hear the music. It's NOTHING like they used to have back when SNK teamed up with EOLITH for KOF 2001 and 2002. Plus the voices sound better, so Ash doesn't sound like a creepy twenty-one year old guy.
The only flaw: NO K'. Seriously? K' is an old character, even though he's not that old, but still. It's nice that they have Kyo and Iori and Ash, but no K'? They'd better bring him into the next one.
Overall, the game gets on a scale of 10, a 9.5 for many pros and few cons. And trust me, fists are gonna fly when you enter the fray.
